Notes: The small, petal-less flowers in the upper leaf axils are surrounded by petal-like bracts. The leaves are narrow, alternate, and become stiff and spine-tipped in mature plants. The stems are often reddish. This introduced weed grows into large, round bushes that will dry and then and tumble in the wind.
