wheeleri Common Name: Common Sotol, Desert Spoon Flower Color: Greenish white to yellowish Plant Type: Subshrub, Shrub, Perennial Height: To 3 feet (91 cm), stalk to 15 feet (4.6 m) tall Date Observed: May 29, 2004 Notes: The tiny flowers have 6 petal-like segments and are clustered along the upper half of tall flower stalks. Male and female flowers are on separate plants. The tough, linear, green leaves are 1 inch (2.54 cm) wide and have outwardly curved teeth along the margins. The leaf bases are shaped like spoons. |
