gummifera, M. macdougalii) Common Name: Macdougal's Nipple Cactus Flower Color: Greenish white to yellow-green Plant Type: Cactus, Shrub, Perennial Height: To 6 inches (15 cm) tall, but usually less Date Observed: April 24, 2005 Notes: The up to 1.25 inch (3.2 cm) wide flowers have greenish stigma lobes and reddish streaked, petal-like tepals. Each nipple-like tubercle has 1 or 2 central spines and 10 to 12 radial spines. These low, flat cacti grow at elevations above 3500 feet (1067 m). |
