Name: Gaura coccinea Common Name: Scarlet Beeblossom Flower Color: White, then turns pink, and then red Plant Type: Subshrub, Herb, Perennial Height: To 20 inches (51 cm) tall Date Observed: July 30, 2006 Notes: The 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide flowers have 4, asymmetrical, spoon-shaped petals, a 4-lobed stigma, and 8 stamens. The flowers open in the evening and close later the next day. The small, alternate leaves are linear to narrowly elliptical with smooth or toothed edges. |
