Name: Justicia californica Common Name: Beloperone, Chuparosa Flower Color: Scarlet, red-orange, rarely yellow Plant Type: Shrub, Perennial, Deciduous Height: From 3 to 6 feet (0.9 to 1.8 m) tall Date Observed: March 1, 2008 Notes: The tubular, 1.6 inch (4 cm) long flowers have a 2-lobed upper lip and a narrow, 3-lobed lower lip. The flowers attract hummingbirds and bloom in the spring and then sporadically thereafter. The plants are usually leafless. J. candicans has upright flowers with a broader lower lip with white markings at the base. |
