thurberi Common Name: Thurber's Cotton, Desert Cotton Flower Color: White, aging to pink Plant Type: Tree, Shrub, Perennial, Deciduous Height: To 7 feet (2.1 m) tall or more Date Observed: September 3 & October 29, 2005 Notes: The 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) wide, 5-petaled flowers often have pink marks near the base of the petals. The round seed capsules contain seeds with only a few cotton fibers. The green leaves have 3 or 5 point-tipped lobes. This native plant is related to cultivated cotton and blooms August to October. |
