The 5-lobed flowers have a beak of yellow stamens. The leaves are glabrous to fuzzy, oval, petioled, and smooth-edged to edged with large, rounded teeth. The green berries ripen to a shiny black. The very similar S. ptycanthum is mostly hairless and may have leaves with purple undersides. |
