covesii (Cassia covesii) Common Name: Coves' Cassia, Desert Senna Flower Color: Yellow Plant Type: Subshrub, Herb, Perennial Height: Up to 2 feet (61 cm) tall Date Observed: July 24, 2004 Notes: The 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide flowers have 5 cupped petals. The long, fuzzy, brown seedpods become woody and twisted when dry. The leaves are dull green to gray-green and pinnately compound with 2 to 3 pairs of elliptical leaflets. The stems are tan and fuzzy. This native plant blooms anytime from April to October. |
