primiveris Common Name: Desert Evening-primrose Flower Color: Buttery yellow, wilting to orange Plant Type: Herb, Annual Height: To only 4 inches (10 cm) tall Date Observed: February 4, 2001 Notes: The up to 2 inch (5 cm) wide flowers have 4, broad, notched, heart-shaped petals. The flowers open in the evening and close the following morning. The leaves are grayish green, oblanceolate, pinnately lobed, and in a basal rosette. This native, desert wildflower blooms in the early spring. |
