crooksii (H. cimicidum) Common Name: Cockroachplant, Cockroach Plant Flower Color: Bright yellow Plant Type: Subshrub, Shrub, Perennial Height: 1 to 2 feet (30 to 61 cm) tall Date Observed: October 4, 2003 Notes: The 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide flowers have 5, oval, overlapping petals that look like a pinwheel when opening. The leaves are lanceolate, green, stippled with white hairs, and up to 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) long. This native, summer to fall-blooming plant is poisonous to insects and can be used as an insecticide. |
