serriola (Lactuca scariola) Common Name: Prickly Lettuce Flower Color: Pale yellow Plant Type: Herb, Annual, Biennial Height: To 5 feet (1.5 m) tall Date Observed: July 30, 2005 Notes: The 1/2 inch (13 mm) wide flower heads are on branched stems and contain only toothed, square-tipped rays. The dentate to coarsely lobed leaves clasp the stems and have distinctive spines along the lower sides of their whitish midribs. These introduced weeds have white, milky sap. |
