Plants in the Phlox Family (Polemoniaceae) are annual and perennial herbs, shrubs, and vines with simple or compound, alternate, opposite, or basal leaves, tubular, funnel-shaped, or bell-shaped flowers with an often 5-ribbed calyx, 5 lobes, 5 stamens, and a superior ovary, and fruit in the form of a capsule or winged samara.
