Viscaceae – Christmas Mistletoe Family
Plants in the tropical and temperate Christmas Mistletoe Family (Viscaceae) are perennial subshrubs and shrubs with multiple, brittle, branched, jointed stems, simple, entire, opposite leaves, small flowers with an inferior ovary, and fruit in the form of fleshy berries. Plants in the Christmas Mistletoe Family are more or less green in color and are hemiparasites, growing and feeding on host plants like trees and shrubs. Although birds enjoy the berries, many members of this family are poisonous.
